When you look at how the costs for fuels and energy keep going up the idea of becoming independent from the power companies start to look pretty good. Being able to produce my own electricity is a big plus for me because I reduce my electric bill and I am not totally dependent on the grid for my electricity.
It is becoming more economical these days to build a solar energy system; you can easily assemble the solar panels at home with the use of a good manual and inexpensive parts that are readily available. Who would not want to reduce their electric bill by 80% or more? It may seem like a daunting task to build your own system but it is very achievable for anyone with some basic mechanical skills.
When set up with a supply of deep cycle batteries such as used in golf carts, you can have a constant back up of electricity. If you live in an area that looses its electricity due to storms, it would be comforting to know you will still have power at your home. Think of the freedom you would have being off the grid, not worrying about the power company.
There are many solar setups that can be made for around $200; that is not that much considering the amount of future savings you will benefit from. You can find a lot of the parts locally and the more specific parts for your panels can be had from Ebay or stores specializing in solar panels. Look at your options and consider the possibility of building your own solar system.
